Guess what Glenn Maxwell managed to accomplish in Australia’s win over Sri Lanka recently?
Well, he just scored the second fastest Cricket World Cup century.
That’s right. Maxwell had hit an outstanding 102 off 53 balls at the Sydney Cricket Ground, powering his team to 376-9 – which is their highest World Cup score against Sri Lanka.
And because of that 64-run victory over the opposing team, Australia has already nab a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Of course, Sri Lanka didn’t hand over the victory without a fight. They were in fine form, in fact, and even threatened to complete a record run chase when Kumar Sangakkara became the first man to score three consecutive centuries at a Word Cup. Sangakkara even worked with Tillakaratne Dilshan to score 14,000 ODI runs – only the second player managed to do so after Sachin Tendulkar.
Still, it was a no-match for Australia as Maxwell was on fire that night, his magnificent batting display earning him the title Man of the Match.
I don’t know about you. But I’m looking forward to seeing the Man of the Match in action in Australia’s succeeding games.
Will he be consistent in his batting performance? I can’t wait to find out.
